Five major rivers and the Chesapeake Bay provide excellent recreational opportunities for boating, fishing and swimming. For nature enthusiasts, the Susquehanna Flats attract 90 percent of the waterfowl traveling the Atlantic flyway. Some popular attractions include: the South Chesapeake City Historic District, C&D Canal Museum, Fair Hill Natural Resources Management Area, Elk Neck State Park, the Town of North East, Upper Bay Museum, Sinking Springs Herb Farm, two scenic byways and many other historical sites and churches. Elk Neck State Park - 2200 acres of beautiful waterfront forest, with 10 miles of trails, sandy beach, playground, miniature golf, cabins, camp sites, snack bar, boat ramps, boat rentals, and bath houses. Fair Hill Natural Resources - 5600 acres of magnificent wilderness, and 80 miles of trails for hiking, biking, horseback riding, and fresh water stream fishing. Visitors will be treated to scenic vistas of woods, rolling hills, fields and winding streams. Since 1951 the YMCA has been providing the community with programs and recreation. What started out as a small organization operating out of a second floor room in the Town of Elkton's Community Building, has become the center of activity for many families from all over the county.
The YMCA building houses a 3,500 sq. foot fitness room, 25-yard swimming pool, five day-care rooms, three full-sized gymnasiums, two racquetball courts, an aerobics room, a karate room, a gymnastics room, two conference rooms and two multi-purpose rooms plus eight acres utilized for football and other outdoor sports.

Baltimore County is located in the heart of Maryland, only minutes from Baltimore's Inner Harbor, Oriole Park at Camden Yards, and M&T Bank Stadium (home of the Ravens). With over 175 miles of waterfront and 60 marinas, Baltimore County is a gateway to the Chesapeake Bay.
Baltimore County boasts:
- Over 10,000 acres of parkland offer boating, hiking, nature trails, camping, fishing, and canoeing. Hike/bike trails are located along Northern Central Railway, and swimming is available at Gunpowder State Park, Miami Beach, Rocky Point and Oregon Ridge Park.
- Thoroughbred (and Preakness) champions are bred and trained in the rolling valleys of northern Baltimore County. Point-to-point and steeplechase races attract the international racing community.
- Wine tasting and special events are held seasonally at Baltimore County's vineyards. Golf courses include renowned Caves Valley and Hayfields, and six public courses.
- Families enjoy picnics and music by the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra at Oregon Ridge.

State Parks
Gunpowder Falls State Park
Gunpowder Falls State Park was established to protect the stream valleys of the Big and Little Gunpowder Falls and the Gunpowder River. There are more than 100 miles of trails, including the 21 mile NorthernCentral Railroad (NCR) Trail. The park features excellent trout fishing opportunities, as well as other freshwater and tidal fishing areas. A variety of topography exists in this long, narrow park, from tidal marshes and wetlands to steep, rugged slopes.
Patapsco Valley State Park
Patapsco Valley State Park extends along 32 miles of the Patapsco River, encompassing 14,000 acres and five active recreational areas. Recreational opportunities include hiking, fishing, camping, canoeing, horseback and mountain bike trails, as well as picnicking for individuals or large groups in the park'smany popular pavilions.
North Point State Park
North Point State Park, covering 1,310 acres, is located on the shores of the Chesapeake Bay and is surrounded by beautiful and fascinating natural and historical resources.
Soldier's Delight
Soldiers Delight Natural Environment Area is comprised of 1,900 acres of serpentine barren. The area has over 39 rare, threatened, or endangered plant species as well as rare insects, rocks and minerals. Currently, a five year effort of removing 1,000 acres of pines and prescribed burning are underway to return the area to natural serpentine habitat
Hart Miller Island
Hart-Miller Island is located in the Chesapeake Bay near the mouth of Middle River and is accessible only by boat. The western shore of the island offers safe mooring, wading and access to a 3,000-foot sandy beach.

The Chester County Park System encompasses over 5,000 acres. Hibernia, Nottingham and Warwick County Parks, Springton Manor Farm and Black Rock Sanctuary are dedicated parklands open for public use, and created to preserve the natural and cultural history of the County, as well as provide passive recreational pursuits. Facilities are open 8 am to sunset, and offer a medley of recreational opportunities and services. All facilities are available year-round, weather permitting. A brief description of the parks, their services and directions is detailed below.

Over 1,000 acres of trails, woodlands, meadows, open fields, play areas, pavilions, camping & picnic areas are strewn throughout. Popular fishing sites include the Brandywine Creek's west branch, Birch Run & a children's pond. Small boating & fishing occur on the 90 - acre Chambers Lake. Hibernia Mansion, home of Colonial Franklin Swayne, is open for public tours on Sunday afternoons, Memorial Day - Labor Day.

The 651 acre park sits atop an out-cropping of serpentine stone greater then one square mile in size - one of the largest serpentine barrens on the East Coast. A popular picnicking park, which offers nine pavilions, as well as informal picnic areas, play lots and rugged trails. Fishing is available in two ponds for bass and panfish.
Warwick Park

Warwick's woodlands provided much of the timber for charcoal used in the early American iron industry. A portion of the French creek meanders through the 538 acre park. An ideal site for nature study, the Horse-Shoe Trail, extending from Valley Forge to the Appalachian Trail, adds length to the numerous miles of multi-use park trails. A children's play area, picnic pavilions and an informal volleyball court are also available.
Springton Manor Farm

Initially part of a William Penn Manor, Springton has been in agricultural use since the early 1700's. On this 300 acre demonstration farm, you can meet the animals and tour the Butterfly House. An interpretive nature trail ends at a catch & release fishing pond. The elegant Manor House features a Victorian garden, gazebo, terrace, and a full caterer's kitchen perfect for weddings & corporate retreats.
Black Rock Sanctuary
Located about 1 mile north of Phoenixville on Route 113.
One of 16 de-silting basins found along the Schuylkill River, consisting of wetlands, woodlands and meadows. 119 acres dedicated to wildlife habitat and public use. Opportunities are available to discover the history, geology, wildlife, plant life and habitats of the basin. Interpretive trail contains fun, educational stations.
